500, going onto 501

Yesterday, I did my 500th post over here at virtual rambling. Yep “Kiss” was my 500th post on this blog.
I can’t believe that I just did that, remembering myself who had no clue as to what to communicate, what to write, and scrambled thoughts always. Today I am filled with nostalgia from blog world, people, posts and friends, so many over the last two years I have spent over here. I thought it would be nice to walk down the memory lane, and remember some of the blog world nostalgia.

When I began blogging, I really did not know how it works out, are you supposed to just blog, get someone to read your blog, tell your friends that you have started blogging, advertise, or just don’t bother about all this and just write, I think I decided to tell my friend, and “Random Thoughts” was my first reader.

That reminds me, “Virtual Ramblings” was not the first choice for my blog, it did start with the name “Random Ramblings”, just a week and “Random” got the ax, “Ramblings” survived though :).

I was very apprehensive with people online, and I hardly interacted with any blogger online. I am not sure how she came across my blog, but Ireland who used to write at “The windmills of my mind“, she was the first one whom I spoke over the IM, shared my real identity, and it was fun knowing her as a person. Its been a long time since I sent her an email, or spoke to her on IM. It would be nice to get her back to blogging. I did shoot her an email today.

There were parts of me which I totally ignored, I found it really difficult to acknowledge those hidden emotions in me, and thats when I came across Ideasmithy at XXfactor happened, and an idea of starting an exclusive blog for my pure pursuits. The idea got me in touch with people with so many different approaches to life. Many people participated in the body or soul series, and many have remained very good blogging friends. Paisley who writes over at “Why Paisley” has been one blogger who has always given me a different view, someone who always breaks the cliche, comes out with an alternative look at my subjects over at pure pursuits.

Finding someone who really gets what you mean, corrects you when they feel you are wrong, is very difficult, not just a word that you are wrong, but also make sure you get their point and realize what you are doing wrong, I was fortunate enough to find a friend who did all this, its been a real pleasure to know a good friend sunshine.

He has been my sole regular male reader for as long as I can remember now. Extremely talented writer, Matt writes over at My life as a conscious observer

Prompts, it began with “Poetry Thursday” which my good friend Darlene used to participate, I got hooked on, and then moved on writer’s island, and then many others to follow. Silverneurotic one of my oldest blog buddies introduced me to Heads or Tails, which I continue to enjoy doing every Tuesday.

Blogs were meant for discussion and honest opinions, so there were times when there was strong opinions against my posts, some of you might remember “couple of good news“, and it was real fun discussing the point of views with ashu over the post .

A couple prompts and a scribbling of poems does not make me a poet, does it, I was reminded of this by a critique over at this post, good to be brought down to ground once in a way.

I said this is one of the previous posts, there are few people who write informative blogs, highly passionate about their subjects, do research about the facts and provide you amazing factual evidence, something which I never do. Nita and Shefaly both have provided me with a different approach to blogging. I still remember Shefaly as the one who made me spell something right, something my teacher could not get me to do.

Books, so many people have suggested me books over here, I am so thankful to many people, It would be stupid to list them out here, but people thank you so much for the book suggestions.

It’s amazing how many new people I have got to read in this blogosphere, some who have got me hooked on, and some who have made me really wait for their next posts. I wish I could export my google reader over here.

Guys thank you so much for all the memories you have given me.

Veens had tagged me to link ten people, I think this counts :).

Why do I have a strong feeling that 500 should be it, the “end“?

gooddaysunshine tagged me with this tag with this musical tag, I generally am pretty lazy with doing tags, but as it was with music, got a little excited.
The rules are pretty simple, one needs to come up with songs for various situations that would sound apt if those situations were to happen in your life.
I have done some home work, and went ahead and linked the youtube videos to each of the songs, I know many of the kannada/hindi songs you might have not heard or may not appreciate..but I just love them, just the way they are :)

Waking up:

I dont know which movie but
subah subah jab khdiki khole,
baajoo vaali ladki haaye,
dil mera bole hello how are you…

ha ha .. wouldn’t that be fun?

Average day:

Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya”

First date:

Woh shaam kuch ajeeb thi”

Falling in love:

Rimjim gire sawan

“Kiss Me - Sixpence none the richer”

Love Scene:

There was this song in the movie Babul ..a classical based song…bawari piya ki,..it would be wondeful..but i doubt that I would stop what I am supposed to do and listen to the song instead ;)
also this one from refugee.. Mere humsafar mere paas aaa

Fight Scene:

This is a great kannada song, anybody want translation please contact me :)
“bisi bisi kajjaya”

Breaking up:
A very recent kannada song, and sonu nigam has sung this just too well.
Male nintu hoda mele.

Getting back together:

jote yali jote jote yali”

Secret love:
“Kitni baatein yaad aatin hain”

Life’s ok:
zindagi ek safar hain suhana

Mental Breakdown:
if am loving this song, then I am sure I must have had a mental break down
sarkailo katiya jhada lage

Driving:
musafir hoon yaroon

Learning a lesson:
har ghadi badal rahin hain from Kal ho na ho

Deep thought:
“Rishtey toh nahi rishton ki parchiyan mile”

Flashback:
“koi lautade mere beetain huve din”

Partying:

Las ketchup..asereje

Happy Dance:
do you wanna partner…”

Regretting:
zindagi ke safar mein guzar jatey hein

Long night alone:
Mujshe raat din bus mujhe chahti ho from sangharsh

Death Scene:
Zindagi, ka safar, hain yeh kaisa safar”

Closing Credits:
yava mohana murali kareyito

My blogger friend Nita who blogs wonderful over at “A wide angle view of India” tagged me here, with the song that inspires you tag.The tag goes like this…
Think of THE song that most inspires you to write, whether it gives you an idea for a story, script or just puts you into a better frame of mind AND/OR peek into the lyrics and find a verse that sums up the theme of whatever project it is you’re working on. If possible, post a video of the song to convey to readers the full context of the song and the mood it puts you into. Finally, send the assignment to five other writers to do as well.
As she said in her post, choosing one song is so very difficult, over the years I have heard so many songs, in so many different languages, some have really stayed back on my mind, made me think, and many even debate, but If I have to choose one it has to be this one

Tujhze naraz nahi zindagi” from the movie Masoom,

It has everything I like, innocence, great lyrics, kids and a beautiful sentiment, deep relations what else I would want to inspire.?

I tag priya, Chennai ramblings and pri.

A lovely Quote and a tag

Yesterday’s directions have still kept me wandering, I pick this quote from a lovely blogger friend Autumn who writes over at “Random Autumness“. She is a new blogger friend of mine, and its been nice to discover her over last couple of posts. Yesterday I was just bowled over by this quote she made in one of her posts.

“I can walk any path. I no longer need to control my direction.”

I think somewhere we need to pick this confidence for our life, I mean reach a stage where we feel secure, and believe that we can walk any path, so what if some of them are hard and take a little more than the other sections, so what if we lose our way a little, we will get back on our feet and walk the path.

I also picked up this small meme over at her place , its a set of questions for which we need to answer in one word. So here goes my attempt

A short memoir

One of my oldest blog buddies Sunshine who writes at Mostly Monologues had an interesting post Capturing-Life-in-Six-Words some days back, was thinking of attempting this one and I saw Ideasmithy say this Memoirs Of A Story-teller. Here’s my attempt at a memoir in six words

‘In pursuit of a better “Me”’

Movie quirks

Nita who writes at A wide angle view of India has tagged me with a movie quirks tag, being a little movie buff myself, this tag was a little tempting, so here I go, try to list some movie quirks about me.

1. My mother tells me I was a big movie buff as a kid too, there was a kannada movie called “Bhandana” which was released when I was 3 years old, and apparently I forced her to take me to the same move for more than 5 times, well it hasn’t been many movies like that which I have watched multiple times, but movie buffdom [if such word exists] did start pretty early in my case.

2. I have a weird taste when it comes to movies, generally the movies I like, are for sure box office flops. My dad has interesting theory, if I go to the theater and like a movie he says the producer should bribe me to say I hated the movie, because if I say I liked it its gonna flop for sure.

3. One exception when it comes to hit movies which I liked watching has to be the blockbuster “Hum Apke Hain Koun”, It might be too easy for people to guess that I like family oriented movies, and I just loved this movie, may be it was the age, or just watching an ideal family/romance on the big screen, I used to keep count as to how many times I have watched the movie, I gave up counting after 50.

4. I like to go for the morning show, the one at 9AM, I used to like this because not many people prefer this show, so we can get tickets easily, even in the first or second week after release. The night show is the worst, because I can’t keep myself awake. I still remember two movies, Devdas and Koi Mil Giya which I went to a movie show 9:30PM-12:30AM, and almost sleep watched the whole movie.

5. I am the worlds only pop corn hater alive I guess, I generally prefer potato chips to pop corn, and even though I like to have an occasional coke/pepsi I kind of avoid it because I hate/lazy to walk upto the loo between the movie.

6. I am not a multiplex guy, I don’t like to spend 150/200Rs on a movie ticket, may be I am stingy.. but I think its too much to pay for a movie. I have watched quite a lot of movies in recent times in multiplexes paying high ticket price mainly because all the traditional cinema houses have been demolished in recent times in Bangalore.

7. As a kid I used to like movies with sad endings, I used to always say that if a movie has a ending where both hero and the heroine die, I would rush to watch the movie. Was I a sadist?

8. I like to watch foreign language movies where I don’t understand a word, its kind of interesting to watch a movie on the basis of just body language of the actors.

9. I like to watch the movie till the credits are over, if people stand up before the credits are over, and I miss the closing songs I get pretty irritated.

10. I like animation movies a lot, I still refer to them as cartoon movies, and many of them like “Open Season”, “Ice Age”, “Lion King”, “Shrek”… you name It and I love it.

Retro thoughts..

Thinking Aloud who writes at Aalochane has tagged me with a meme, which is about recollecting thoughts from the past, Trying to recollect the posts you have written and reliving some of the thoughts related to family, friendship, yourself, and your love.

I think I had seen this meme on one of the blogs before, and I had liked it instantly, mainly because its more about reliving those moments when you wrote those posts. So for a change I chose to do the meme on the same day as I am tagged :).

For the readers, here are the rules
Post links to 5 of your previously written posts. The posts have to relate to the 5 key words given : family, friend, yourself, your love, anything you like. Tag 5 other friends to do this meme. Try to tag at least 2 new acquaintances so that you get to know them each a little bit better.

Here they go …

Family.. I think one of the things which should be and will be in all of our minds is family, actually I was searching through my older posts, and I never thought I would not find posts related to family in there.
I remember this post which I had written about parenting, I am not a parent, but it doesn’t stop us thinking like one, does it?, heres “parenting blues from a non parent.“.
There are times when I totally feel a disconnect from my family, and its followed by a realization and getting back into the family groove, one of those times over here at “family lost and found“.

Friends…
I have had very less number of friends over years, but the ones I have, have been really close.
There have been times when I have wondered where it all starts, like here “lets talk about beginnings“.
There have been times when I have wondered about how friendships have been under confusions over years when gender is involved, “friendship talkies.

Yourself…
Looks like all posts I write, somehow relate to this topic in a way or other :). I wish I could put all the links here..
I have some real strong attachment to this thought, mainly because this is the first time I wanted to write something. This is the first time I documented the thought that was going through me. Here it is “Inspired by the 2 way
I have written for prompts over time, and one of the posts which I really liked was about writing letters, I think this was something which I felt for “Times when I wanted to write a letter
I have never shied from admitting I tend to be over sensitive, and there were times when I have thought more about the topic like here “I am talking sensitivity today”

Your love..
I am really apprehensive when it comes to this topic, mainly because I feel my brand of romance or love is something not the typical types, or may be not even something that can be considered as love.
I once spoke about the music of silence between people here at “Silent strings“.
There have been times when I have been expressive, about how I see ‘her’, what I want ‘her’ to be like, for example here at “she“.
My ideas of sharing romance with a partner was once upon a time expressed over here at “bed share story“.

Somehow did not find the 5th topic on TA’s blog, so went ahead and chose something which always finds mention on my blog.
Relationships…
I once wrote about equations, and I was really impressed with the title I chose..”x2 + y2 = z2

I am supposed to tag 5 people, but I am really bad at this, so I think I am gonna bail out on this one :).

Awards time…

Sameera who writes beautifully at Sameera’s Haven, has given me an award, “Thoughtful blog reader” award. Sameera thank you so much for this one, I am not so sure about the thoughtful part, surely I am a blog reader though :)

.wallpaper.jpg
Marja, who is from far away New Zealand, whom I met through writer’s island, and writes wonderfully at DUTCHCORNER has given me a nice award “Thank you for being my friend”. Blog world is so amazing, you make new friends so easily.

thankyouforbeingmyfriend.gif

Thank you people for being so nice to me, and passing on these awards to me.

I would like to pass on “Thank you for being my friend” award to a new friend I have made recently, Lea who writes at Tales From The Labyrinth. One of the few people whose blog I came across accidentally and have been reading regularly ever since. Thanks Lea for being my friend, and sharing your wonderful experiences with all of us.

7 weird wonders about me…

I really don’t remember how I came across this blog “The Silent K“, but I can say that the name still amuses me till date, I think its been more than an year now since I am reading this blog, every time I log into the site and word The Silent K strikes me.

People around the world are so creative, She works, she studies Zen, She knows about Pranayama[Breathing techniques], and she practices Yoga, Did I mention she is a mom of two kids and an excellent photographer, and of course she writes beautifully. Krista the silent “K” of the the silentk impresses all of her readers through her writing.

Krista has tagged me to do a tag on 7 weird things about me, I have done this meme before, infact I have written so many weird things about me here that people already consider me a weirdo :) , I really wanted to this for one of my oldest blog-rolled blogger friends.

  1. As a student, I never hated exams/tests, in fact people close to me will know how I used to look forward to those tests as I kind of liked testing my preparations for the finals. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I always used to think about only one thing in school “finals”.
  2. I hate commuting, Air conditional buses/cars give me nausea, I am the kind who prefers fresh air gushing past one’s face. I was almost 24 before boarding my first flight, and for most part of my 25 years hated traveling. But strangely things change.
  3. I am a huge fan of Richard Bach’s writing, I think his characters are very close to the real me. The bridge across for ever, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, One are some of the books which shall never leave my shelf.
  4. I really like people who are on time, and hate people who are not, I don’t think being late can have any excuse, specially in this world of high connectivity there is always a means of making others not wait for us.
  5. I am an early raiser, I can wake up early everyday with nothing much to do as well, I mean even on weekends I had a habit of waking at 6, with lot of difficulty my mom has made me change and raise a little late on weekends. Oh why if you ask, mainly because she can relax and cook breakfast a little late :)
  6. I get angry very easily, I know its bad and am working on it, I was really surprised when a friend of mine asked me “do you ever get angry”, because more or less I am not a happy person most of the times, If you just look at me, you can easily get fooled by the smile I carry always.
  7. I am very fussy eater and even more fussy shopper, I pity the person who will end up struck with me, the person would have a tough time when I try to buy things. I am fussy about the price, the look and the quality of anything I buy. I have changed a little on this front, but then its still a lot fussy compared to people I know.

Random Randomness #46

My blogger friend “Thinking Aloud” who has a beautiful blog “Alochane” had tagged me to write 7 random/weird facts about me, and my blogger friend from SA, Absolute Vanilla also tagged me for the same meme. As you guys know my weekend summary of randomness was anyways due, I decided to do something different. I read all my previous randomness posts and picked 7 random things which I thought best described me.

Random victories:
Small victories bring you so much of happiness. I guess I have a problem of under estimating my abilities and underplaying my part. I have always been guilty of this. I am very skeptical when given a challenge, I Would work on it and struggle too if required, but I remain skeptical. But then when I actually solve the problem, it really makes me happy.
Thursday was one such, a small victory but great fun. Wish I get more such days, hearts so selfish.
I always tend to underestimate my abilities.

Random Fun:
I was planning to meet a friend of mine today, and we both were having trouble deciding which cafe to meet at, after a couple of options, I asked her if she wanted to do something
else, and innovative she is, came up with this brilliant idea of going for a walk. Never
ever I could have come up with such a thing to do, when you meet your friend. So we decided to take a walk in one of the oldest parks in Bangalore. So there we were walking around a lake for more than a hour, talking the walk, and walking the talk. It was so much fun.
Simple things with best of my friends make me very happy.

Random comments:
Its really strange to realize how others perceive you, most of the times I end up being surprised and even shocked sometimes. This was one such occasion. My cousins wife telling, my other cousin and his wife
situation: Other cousin’s kid being cranky toward fag end of the day, and trying to sleep
with his legs all over me at a public place.
Comment : “Hey, don’t worry, my daughter [4 year old] has trained Rambler well, he can
easily put up with cranky kids and make them quiet.”

I am great with kids

Random discomfort:

On of my biggest discomfort in attending huge gatherings/celebrations is the pleasantry “are you doing fine” questions which I have to ask, and answer like 250 times, thats was the number of people in a function I attended on Saturday. In most of the cases, I was not even listening to their answers, and in on most, they were not so keen in finding out How I was doing. How come our culture has so many fakes put in there.
I hate social gatherings, more of a short gathering of close friends kinda person

Random regret:

How choosy can I get, I wasted almost 1.5 hours looking for a shirt on Wednesday, not only did I waste my time but also my cousin’s. I finally did the shopping within 15 mnts the next day, but that day I was sick about myself. When you have something in mind and you dont get it, it really frustrates you.
I am very choosy and fussy, in anything I do, in anything I buy.

Random realization:
Its funny how you come across to the other person, when you interact with another person, its not just what you say, there are so many other things thats talking, your sense of dress, your hair, your background, your age, and the topics you chose to speak about, the other person is always in the process of framing an opinion or changing the one he/she already has. Sometimes it may amuse you, how you come across. These are the random adjectives I received recently
“you’re a mess”
“naive”
“kiddish”
“Wastu” [A local slang to convey uselessness of the individual :)]
“too young to understand”
“nutcase”
“hardly understand you”
“why do you have to think about this”

Well this is what others see me as.

Random Bliss:
After a long time, I can’t believe its almost like 3 months since I had my last one, I finally made up my mind to go for my walk, I was feeling very bored on Saturday evening so around half past five, I decided just to put my sneakers on and go for a walk, at my regular park. Its amazing how things can change in as short as 3 months, I reached there and I didn’t keep track of the number of rounds I did, may be it was 4 to 5, I just kept on walking for about an hour and half. The thoughts, the ideas all were back, the feeling of fresh air clears up a lot of mind. The walk was really a bliss, as usual it left me wanting more of it on way back.
I tend to think a lot over walks, and throughly enjoy these walks around the park alone

You can read a lot more randomness related to me over here.

Speaking of weird things I had done a post long time back about how much of a weirdo I am, check it out here
