Where I would like to be…

Given a chance to travel time,
I asked myself,
Where would I like to be?

I would love to go back in time,
time when life was not a mad rush,
Life was still a struggle,
but sans the mad rush of the modern times,
when The roads were empty,
when The homes were full,
when families were big and joint,
When it was more about “us” than “I”
Where one wanted to live,
and not necessarily compete.

Given a chance to travel time,
I asked myself,
Where would I like to be?

I would love to go into future,
Time when life would have settled down,
Moved onto more meaningful paths,
with no strings attached,
with a victories over temptations,
with people who know how to coexist,
where people have learnt to smile again,
where happiness is no longer just money,
where The greenery once lost, has been rebuilt,
where humanity once extinct, has resurfaced.

  1. What about PRESENT!!!With a little effort, your present can be a combination of both what you want to have in your past and future. Isn’t it??? After all, its YOUR present, its YOU who can make it the way you want it to be 🙂

You are really good at poetry!!! Keep it up 🙂

    Akshata,
I guess time traveling to the present would be a new idea, need to think more on that..

  2. back or forth? …maybe back and forth? once you have experienced both, it’s easy to live in the present huh? 🙂 done nicely. thanks.

    UL,
I think its easier to be in present and think about the future this way 🙂

  3. wonderful… I love the line, “where the roads were empty, when the homes were full…” and the hopes for the future… “once extinct, has resurfaced…”

Right now, if I could go back in time??? I would go to the city council meeting of fifty years ago, where they decided to split our town and half… I would show them pictures, no videos (which would blow them away) of what has happened in the aftermath of their fear of loosing people to shop in the coming malls in lieu of the heart of our city…

I think I’ll go for a walk in your future to come!!!

    🙂

Lea, walk in my future, that would be fun 🙂

  4. This suggests anywhere but the present. Looking at how relationships and community breaks down so easily today, I can’t say I disagree.

AN, its not exactly that way, its more like time travel to both future and past

  5. very nice thoughts…**Life was still a struggle,
but sans the mad rush of the modern times

  6. I like your thoughts here, it would be interested to go back and forth and make the comparison and then bring it all back here and nw to learn from it

    CGW,
yep totally got the idea 🙂

  7. Very sensible times you want to live in. Although we don’t understand the environment we live in today, maybe it will get better.
We al optimistically will travel into future time you described 🙂

    Thanks for the nice one.

Revathi, we all should live in expectation that it will get better, don’t we?

  8. I would love to go back to my childhood, to revisit at will several different times and places, to see old houses, to see my mother and dad and brother young, to see myself…but then, I would like to come back to Now, with my children and grandchildren. I don’t want to see the future….

    Pepek, why not the future?
    -Rambler

  9. very lovely post, It made me think how we are always hoping life will change, yet in your future scenario, Will you look back on TODAY as the past and wish life was just as it is Right now for you? :))

  11. This piece was so full of hope. I want to live in that place where people have learned to smile again. How wonderful that would be!
